SERVICING Q & A How often should the bike be serviced? It is recommended that, at a minimum, your bike is serviced at the following intervals:-1st. service @ 100 km. 2nd. service @1000 km. Under normal conditions, your bike should then be serviced every 2000-3000 km. However, particular conditions, such as rain, dust, *competitive use, salted winter roads etc. may require more frequent servicing. For example, it could be necessary to clean and lubricate the chain after every ride. *Triathletes note Always clean and lube your bike well after sea swim events as the salt water you drip onto it will seize seat post into frame, cranks to b/bracket axle, pedals to cranks, and rust headset, pedal bearings and cables. (Ring a bell anyone?) Can I perform small repair operations by myself? Many bicycle service or repair tasks require specialized knowledge, tools and experience. General mechanical aptitude may not be sufficient to properly service or repair your bicycle. In addition, it is often difficult to diagnose the problem with accuracy. Improper adjustment or service can result in an accident and serious personal injury. It is recommended that you always contact an experienced mechanic to service your bike. Is maintenance really important? The life expectancy of the components and the safety of the user depend on proper maintenance. While the evolution of materials and lubricant technologies has reduced the number of service operations required, the continuing importance of proper maintenance cannot be underestimated. WHEEL RIM DURABILITY The braking surface of a rim may be subject to wear, especially from intensive or prolonged use, and may experience wear for reasons as diverse as the encrustation of gravel or mud in the brake pads or the use of worn or poorly adjusted brake pads. Abrasive substances may have been deposited during use and can scratch or significantly damage the braking surface of the rim, which may not be noticed by the user until it is too late. Excessive wear can result in the tyre bead parting company with the rim, with serious and dangerous consequences. It is common to have rims replaced as you would the brake pads, hopefully, with proper maintenance, not quite as often. MAINTENANCE Rims and pads must be cleaned with soap and water on a regular basis. Re-adjust brake pads partway through life to contact rims squarely.
THIS COULD BE THE ANSWER TO YOUR INDOOR TRAINING PLAN
Indoor specific tyre for turbo trainers and rollers. With a modern turbo trainer and the UltraSport Home Trainer in the house, winter can set in when it wants to. Thanks to its special cold-running compound, the Home Trainer doesn't experience the heat build up of a road tyre, nor does it suffer the tread seperation that the road tyre is prone to under the special loads occuring when cycling and braking on the rollers revolving drums. Noise levels produced by the tyre rolling on the drum of a turbo trainer are also reduced when using this tyre in comparison to a road tyre. The UltraSport Home Trainer has been designed explicitly for rollers and is not suitable for on-road use.
GT85 TEFLON LUBRICANT I've used this on our racebikes & customers bikes for 15 years (well tried & recommended). Soon after the launch of GT-85 supplies were being snapped up by MOD workshops. The aircraft and helicopter industry was soon to follow as word rapidly spread about the new cleaning and lubricant spray, with outstanding properties, which could benefit all types of machinery or equipment without leaving a sticky residue, It was not long before the car, motor racing and cycling fraternities latched on to the usefulness of this new product which cleaned, protected and lubricated. GT-85 is now the spray of choice for professionals and amateurs alike. Major users include:- Virgin Airlines, BT, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Plessey + Ministry of Defence. |
